Hagia Sophia, which was built as a church and converted into a mosque and museum respectively, is an important structure for Christian and Muslim clergy. It is also of great importance among archaeologists and art historians.
Rather than dedicating this structure, which is important for many different societies, to a single society, the Council of Ministers decided to open it as a museum in 1934. Since its opening as a museum, it has hosted millions of different cultures every year.
In 2019 the museum visited by 3 million 727 thousand 361 people which made Hagia Sophia the most visited and most profitable museum in the Turkey.
Considering all these, how correct it is to turn Hagia Sophia from a museum to a mosque. Is this decision taken for the interests of a political party rather than the interests of the country?
